BMW teases design concept for iNext Vision Vehicle

BMW's electric crossover - dubbed the "iNext" - will be shown off later this year. Unfortunately we don't have much else to go on at the moment, and the solitary teaser image gives us very little.

According to Mr Krueger, the iNext will be revealed as a Vision concept vehicle later this year, and whispers are suggesting the Paris motor show in October could play host.

The first image of the iNext Vision, or at least a teaser sketch showing the side of the vehicle, was presented by BMW's chairman of the board Harald Krüger during Thursday's annual general meeting.

"For the first time, we are combining all key technologies for future mobility", Krueger said.

In BMW's terminology, Vision concepts tend to be slightly further from production and more imaginative, whereas "Concept" models are much more realistic previews of upcoming models.

Krüger told the shareholders: "Today, we wanted to give our shareholders an exclusive first glimpse".

No doubt, as the reveal of the new iNEXT Concept nears, we'll get something more concrete.

The process of homogenising BMW's platforms and powertrains will also be complete around the turn of the decade, which will allow the brand to offer electrified versions across its entire range. That follows an announcement previous year that the company would launch cars able to drive themselves on the highway by 2021. It will be developed in tandem with the i4 electric large sedan concept first seen in Frankfurt in 2017. "Now, the letter "i" is coming to our core BMW brand". The iNEXT is fully electric, fully connected and also offers highly automated driving.

Krüger explained that going forward, all fully electric BMW models introduced would carry the i designation.

Such visits have grabbed headlines in past years, with members of the New England Patriots boycotting the visit last year. Don't matter - if you wanna meet to talk about advancing our communities, changing our countries, I am all for that.
