Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield on brink of Rangers move

Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield on brink of Rangers move

Gerrard is seeking to improve the Rangers squad he inherited from former club boss Graeme Murty and clearly sees midfielder Arfield as the first missing piece in the pursuit of closing the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership with arch-rivals Celtic.

Scott Arfield has officially been paraded as a Rangers player, and the midfielder has revealed he turned down interest to stay in England in order to join Steven Gerrard's revolution in Govan.

The 29-year-old will be the first of potentially many names signing up to the club, with investment and expectation in high demand at the Ibrox club.

"I have been down there for a number of years and I felt I had to come back up to a club that is only going to go on to better things".

Arfield, who was born in Scotland but plays his worldwide football for Canada, where his father is from, made almost 200 appearances for Burnley.

Satar Hissaini, a tribal elder in Farah , told AFP that although the situation is " very bad ", the city was being defended. He said fighters launched attacks from multiple directions, after which they overran several checkpoints in the city.

And will Arfield be a success at Rangers?

'It is pleasing also that we have been able to start our rebuilding process so quickly after the end of the season.

He helped the Terriers win promotion to the Championship and earned a move to Burnley in 2013, where the midfielder has been promoted to the Premier League twice and spent three seasons in the top-flight of English football.

Gerrard will initially look to make an impact in the Europa League with Rangers, knowing that steering the Gers through qualifying and to the group stage would be a big early feather in his cap.

'Scott is the first one in and I look forward to working with him and others who will be coming in to strengthen the squad.' He added.
