California DA: 10 kids strangled, shot with crossbow, waterboarded

The children's father, 29-year-old Jonathan Allen, pleaded not guilty to torture and child cruelty charges and is being held on $5.2 million bail.

KRON4's Lydia Pantazes is at the courthouse this morning.

The allegations were part of prosecutors' attempt to have the children's mother Ina Rogers' bail increased after she was charged with nine counts of felony child abuse on Wednesday.

During a press conference with Lt. Hurlbut, she said she believes nine of the 10 children were abused, describing it as torture-intentional infliction of "extreme pain and suffering. for sadistic purposes". "When the children were taken into protective custody and to live with relatives, the children started to disclose vicious and callous acts that were committed against them", said Solano County Chief Deputy DA Sharon Henry.

Juarez alleges Rogers assisted in the abuse and "dissuaded the children" from reporting their injuries, which included broken arms. Rogers and Allen now face allegations of child neglect, torture and abuse after the children told investigators they suffered puncture wounds, burns and bruising as well as injuries consistent with being shot by pellet guns or BB guns.

Her bail was raised to $495,000, while Allen remains in jail on $5.2 million bail, the network reported.

"She has other motives and has conjured up these ideas of torture", Rogers said. The officers located the missing 12-year-old and returned to the child's home.

All 10 children were placed into the care of the Solano County Child Welfare office. An attorney who represented Rogers in court Wednesday declined to comment after the hearing. The investigation revealed a long and continuous history of severe physical and emotional abuse of the children.

The motion states that when Fairfield Police arrived at the two-story house in a suburb 46 miles (74 kilometers) northeast of San Francisco on March 31, they found the children "huddled together on the living room floor" in a home littered with feces and trash.

On Wednesday, Solano County's deputy district attorney condemned Rogers. She's now free on $10,000 bail.

"The children appeared to be skittish and spoke with speech impediments", Juarez added.

The Solano County alternate public defender's office has just been appointed to Allen's case, Roberto Najera said.

She also alleged that Allen put a.22-caliber gun into her mouth and threatened to shoot her, forcing her to beg for her life. Police removed the children and arrested Rogers on suspicion of neglect.

The parents of 10 children rescued from what California authorities call years-long abuse are both in jail after their mother was taken into custody Wednesday and her bail set at almost $500,000 to reflect the seriousness of the charges.

Rogers on Monday - while still out on bail - held a sort of news conference at her home. That year, Ina Rogers called police to tell them she'd spent the night away from home after Allen threatened to rip her head off, police said.

"I want to tell them that I love them". She said her daughter failed to get on the school bus on her first day of kindergarten and was later found talking to a stranger and his dog at the school, she said.

On Monday, she showed reporters the family's four-bedroom home and denied abusing the children, saying that she is being judged for having a large family and home-schooling them.

Jonathan Allen, left, and Ina Rogers, proper, have been arrested after police discovered 10 kids dwelling in "horrible" circumstances of their Fairfield, California house.

"My husband has a lot of tattoos, he looks like a scary individual, and that's why people are so quick to judge him".
