Europa League Final 2018: how and where to watch

Marseille's Dimitri Payet and Steve Mandanda singled out France teammate Antoine Griezmann as Atletico Madrid's biggest threat to their side in Wednesday's Europa League final.

Both teams are in for an epoch-making encounter as Atletico Madrid were the first club to win the UEFA Europa Cup after it was rebranded while Marseille was the first club to be proclaimed UEFA Champions League victor in 1993.

Asked if his absence will have any impact, he said: "We lived it with Arsenal, at home, when German was [watching] over the team".

"We'll be excited, up for it, but also tense". We have to try and impose our style of play and take the game in the direction we want.

Fernando Torres has claimed that spearheading Atletico Madrid to the Europa League final has minimised the feelings of "knowing that my career is over". "It'll be a great final". Whereas Marseille are free-flowing and creative going forward, Atletico are cagey, pragmatic and defensively sound.

The Spanish side have greater collective experience of European finals, but Simeone was not keen to draw too many comparisons with what has come before. We've proven that we could overcome some steep challenges.

"Today, of course, Atletico are favourites". Left-back Filipe Luis is expected to return to the lineup from an injury.

Payet should be fit to start for Marseille, having missed their weekend game with Guingamp with a muscle complaint. Versatile Brazilian Luiz Gustavo has often excelled when pressed into service as a centre-back, and rampaging right-back Bouna Sarr has really caught the eye.

Since dropping out of the Champions League after an unusually poor group-stage campaign, Atleti have taken the Europa League very seriously, with Simeone choosing his strongest available line-up more often than not.

Marseille will compete in their third UEFA Cup/Europa League final in this game, while they're looking for their first victory following defeats to Parma in 1998/99 and Valencia in 2003/04. "That first trophy was the key to everything that came later". He won the Europa League in 2012, LaLiga in 2014 and has also overseen two Champions League final appearances. But this will be his last chance to finally win an elusive trophy with his boyhood club.
