"Murphy Brown" reboot to tackle "fake news"

The revival of Murphy Brown is going after the cable news wars.

The dramas are "God Friended Me" with Brandon Micheal Hall ("The Mayor"); "Magnum", with Jay Hernandez taking the lead role; and "FBI" from "Law & Order" executive producer Dick Wolf. Revivals have been a major theme of the upfront season and this comedy will return to CBS on Thursdays at 9:30pm Eastern Time as a part of CBS's top-rated comedy block with shows like "Young Sheldon", "Big Bang Theory" and "Mom". The original series aired for 10 years on CBS, from 1988 to 1998, and received 62 Emmy nominations with 18 wins and 15 Golden Globe nominations with three wins.

The new "Magnum P.I." is part of a greatly revamped Monday lineup that also features the new (really new) CBS comedies, "The Neighborhood" and "Happy Together". See the network's full new schedule.

The CBS enthusiasm for a "Murphy Brown" redux undoubtedly was fueled by the success of comedy revivals at ABC ("Roseanne") and NBC ("Will & Grace").

She has since made a decision to hand over the guitar as a way of settling the divorce proceedings quickly without a trial. Earlier this month, Frances opened up to the Daily Front Row about what her late father would think of her own music.

CBS has always been one of the most successful networks in terms of ratings because they know their audience. Take a look at trailers for the new shows below. Executive producer Dick Wolf's new crime drama is set in NY and stars Jeremy Sisto, Zeeko Zaki, Missy Peregrym and Connie Nielsen. The show is being produced by Emmy Award victor Dick Wolf and the team behind the "Law & Order" franchise.

Speaking of dramas, CBS will be unveiling a new series on Sunday nights called "God Friended Me". CBS said the plot concerns "an outspoken atheist whose life is turned upside down when he receives a friend request on social media from God and unwittingly becomes an agent of change in the lives and destinies of others around him".

Shows that won't be returning include: 9JKL; Kevin Can Wait; Living Biblically; Me, Myself & I; Scorpion; Superior Donuts; Wisdom of the Crowd, and Zoo.
