OSCE urges Ukraine to refrain from harassing foreign journalists

The SBU press secretary Olena Gitlianska said in a Facebook release that Ukrainian law enforcers have discovered a whole network of media structures controlled by Russian Federation. Security agents also arrested a Ukrainian-born Russian journalist, accusing him of treason.

Kyrylo Vyshynsky, a dual Ukrainian-Russian national who works for Russian state-run news agency RIA Novosti, was detained in Kiev on Tuesday where officials said he would be charged with treason for his "subversive" reporting to justify Moscow's 2014 annexation of Crimea.

"They broke into our office, there is no contact with the employees, our website is not updated, telephones are blocked", she wrote on Twitter.

It was established that in spring 2014, when Russia annexed Ukraine's Crimea, Vyshinsky produced anti-Ukrainian materials and received a medal "For the Return of Crimea" from Russian President Vladimir Putin, the SBU said.

The SBU issued a statement announcing that "a network of media structures, which Moscow used for carrying out a hybrid war" against Kiev has been uncovered.

Relations between Kiev and Moscow have been tense since Russian Federation annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014 and supported Ukrainian separatists in the region.

Japan's economy just shrunk for the first time in over 2 years
Economists say while the contraction is temporary, the rebound will not be almost as strong as previous quarters. Consumer spending fell marginally, registering a decline of less than one percentage point in the first quarter.

Zakharova accused Ukrainian authorities of a "repressive" policy against the media and expressed Russia's "indignation at the brutal violations of the freedom of the press in Ukraine".

Ukrainian authorities have previously detained or deported several journalists for spreading anti-Ukrainian propaganda and supporting the separatists' cause. "That was the reason for the searches".

The Kremlin called the raid "scandalous".

A spokeswoman for the SBU, Elena Gitlyanskaya confirmed that the SBU conducted searches at the Kiev office of Russian news agency RIA Novosti today.
