Reports link Rangers with moves for five big-name signings

Rangers have already seen David Bates agree to join Hamburg on a free transfer this summer and with periodical doubts over Bruno Alves' future, Gerrard may need to bring in a central defender.

After a five-year spell in the English Championship and Premier League with Hull City, as well as a one-year stint in Turkey with Besiktas, McGregor has came back to the club he made his name at as a youngster, and signed a tw0-year contract with the Gers.

And the 35-year-old has reportedly spent the past few weeks looking at buying a new home in Bournemouth, suggesting he is content on the south coast.

McGregor, who has 38 worldwide caps, moved to Hull after a year in the Turkish top flight.

Rangers yesterday announced the signing of Scott Arfield from Burnley as the first import of Steven Gerrard's reign a Ibrox.

McGregor started his career at Rangers and played over 200 games for the Glasgow giants.

The 20-year-old hitman is wanted on a loan to lead the Rangers attack next season and it's claimed that informal talks between himself and Reds' boss Jürgen Klopp have already taken place to establish if a deal could be worked out.

McGregor, who quit the Ibrox outfit six years in the midst of the club's financial meltdown, said: "When the chance came, it was an absolute no-brainer, so I'm buzzing to be back".

Gerrard hopes that the prospect of a Scottish Premier League title race next season will encourage the youthful striker up North for a season. "If you keep doing that, that's what wins you titles".
