Russian Federation seeks mediator role between Israel and Iran

Russian Federation seeks mediator role between Israel and Iran

Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Friday urged Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to expel Iranian forces from his country, after Israeli air strikes hit alleged Iranian targets in Syria.

Israeli military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Conricus said Thursday that Iran had been trying to orchestrate an attack for a month, but Israel thwarted its attempts.

It reiterated that Iran was preparing to resume "industrial-scale" uranium enrichment "without any restrictions" unless Europe provided solid guarantees that it could maintain trade ties despite renewed USA sanctions.

Israeli officials claimed the attack was a response to a barrage of 20 rockets from Syria at Israeli military outposts in Golan and blamed Iran for the attack.

He added that Russian Federation had warned Israel to avoid "all actions that could be seen as provocative" the day before the strikes when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was in Moscow for talks with President Vladimir Putin.

But in the past few weeks, Israel has shifted to a more direct and public confrontation with Iran, striking at Iranian bases, weapons depots and rocket launchers across Syria, and killing Iranian troops.

Iranian President, Hassan Rouhani said its anti-terror efforts have "benefited the region and the world, including Europe". Syria's military said Thursday that the airstrikes had killed three people and destroyed a radar station and an ammunition warehouse.

Israel has warned it will not allow Iran to establish a military presence close to its borders in Syria, where Iranian military advisers, troops, and allied Shi'ite militia have since 2011 played a key role backing Assad in his civil war against Sunni rebels.

If Iran decides to escalate the conflict with more attacks on Israel, will Trump have Israel's back? .

In February, Israel shot down what it said was an armed Iranian drone that entered Israeli airspace.

A strong American-Israeli-Saudi-led Arab alliance working with our European allies, India and Japan will be pivotal for creating the pressure needed to arrive at a more prosperous, stable Middle East free of the threat of Iranian terror and aggression, and one in which Iran has made the moves to become a member of the worldwide community in good standing once again. She condemned overnight attacks by Iranian forces on Israeli military positions in the Golan Heights, and called on Iran to contribute to de-escalation in the region.

President Donald Trump delivered on his election promise of making America pull out of the Iran nuclear deal which was signed in 2015.

Following Israeli strikes on Iranian targets in Syria, Russia has positioned itself as a mediator between the Middle Eastern rivals as it has maintained good relations with both countries. It was one of the largest Israeli military operations in recent years and its biggest such raid against Iranian targets, the military said.

Israeli officials have expressed disappointment that neither the US nor Russian Federation has committed to prevent the Iranian military from striking root permanently in Syria.

It will be a war mainly with missiles from Iran and Hezbollah versus Israel's air force.
