Mitchelton-Scott's Simon Yates climbed to victory in the 225km ninth stage of the Giro d'Italia, which finished on the Gran Sasso today.

This is Somon Yates' first stage win at the Giro dItalia for Simon Yates, and the 24th stage win for British riders in the history of the race.

The battle for the honours was now on with Giulio Ciccone (Bardiani-CSF) and Domenico Pozzovivo (Bahrain-Merida) piling attack upon attack in the final two kilometres, but they were chased repeatedly by Pinot with Yates and Chaves on his wheel.
