Elon Musk Outlines How His Chicago ‘Loop’ Transport Will Work

The Chicago Infrastructure Trust, acting on behalf of the City of Chicago, chose the Boring Company's proposal for the Chicago Express Loop service from downtown Chicago to Terminals 1 - 3 at the city's O'Hare Airport - where almost 80 million passengers boarded or disembarked at the IL airport in 2017.

The company has designed a system that uses computer-controlled electric-powered wheeled "skates" that can travel at speeds of up to 150 miles per hour while carrying passengers, goods or vehicles riding on top of them.

People will travel nonstop between the Loop and O'Hare in 16-passenger vehicles called "skates", which will leave every 30 seconds, the Boring Co said.

But in interviews with Chicago newspapers, Emanuel expressed great faith in the ability of Musk, father of the Tesla and SpaceX, to deliver at a cost of roughly $1 billion or less.

The Boring Company, the tunneling venture led by Elon Musk that seeks to build underground pathways that would house high-speed autonomous transit, landed a big win in Chicago on Wednesday night.

A view of The Boring Company Tunnel in Los Angeles. Given that a journey to O'Hare Airport is usually a 40-minute trip along the city's blue line, this is an extremely bold claim. Experts have raised concerns over the financial viability of Loop transportation systems, as well as potential environmental and legal challenges.

Rebel Wilson: Court slashes actress's record defamation payout
Speaking on behalf of Bauer Media , general counsel, Adrian Goss, said: "It was important for us to revisit the award of damages". However the Court of Appeal found "there was no basis in the evidence for making any award of damages for economic loss".

The Boring Company has estimated the cost of the project to be $1bn, which would be entirely funded by it in exchange for all revenue from the system's transit fees, advertising, branding and in-vehicle sales.

According to the Boring Company, the skates would have Wi-Fi and be large enough to hold passengers and cargo.

"Given his track record, we are taking his reputation and saying, "This is a guy in two other transportation modes who has not failed". It would whisk travelers to O'Hare on electric skates, powered by technology used in Tesla Model X vehicles.

Officials from city and Boring have stated that it's too soon to estimate a timeframe or final cost for this project, but have stated that Boring will be fronting the bill. Exact project costs and construction timelines will be negotiated with the contract.

A success in Chicago would give Boring Co. considerable credibility as it tries to move ahead on other projects, including service within Los Angeles and a planned system between Washington, D.C., and New York City.

Musk held a town hall-style meeting in the affluent LA suburb of Bel-Air last month to ease fears among residents skeptical of the tech billionaire's plan to dig tunnels under their neighborhoods. "Almost like an autonomous, underground, multi-level auto system".
