Elon Musk Says Tesla Nearly Ready To Deliver Self-Driving Car

Elon Musk Says Tesla Nearly Ready To Deliver Self-Driving Car

Musk tweeted that these small rocket engines would "dramatically improve acceleration, top speed, braking & cornering".

"To date, Autopilot resources have rightly focused entirely on safety", Elon Musk tweeted.

"Latest update should have a positive effect on latter issue especially".

You may think that the autopilot features in Musk's autonomous cars could actually let you sit back and relax as the vehicle takes you where you want to go.

"Tesla hasn't made sufficient changes to its system to address the NTSB's concerns, and also has never provided detailed data to the public demonstrating the conditions in which Autopilot can safely operate".

The tweet that alerted the world to Tesla's impending update was a response to an owner complaining about Autopilot's merging performance in traffic.

Consumer groups argue Tesla's marketing - and even the name "Autopilot", which calls to mind a free-flying jet - contributes to a risky misunderstanding for drivers, suggesting they can take their hands off the steering wheel. Those include systems with driver-assist features as well as those that enable fully self-driving vehicles.

Rocket-powered Tesla Roadster may fly, Elon Musk says

Troubled electric-car maker Tesla may be set to deliver new, fully autonomous vehicle features later this summer.

Musk has previously said the software will "never be perfect" and is not created to replace human control of a vehicle.

The new Tesla Roadster was first revealed in 2017 but is only expected to be available in 2020 for a base price of $200,000 United States dollars. "Tesla Autopilot does not prevent all accidents-such a standard would be impossible-but it makes them much less likely to occur", the March blog said.

The morning crash in Mountain View on Highway 101 killed the driver, 38-year-old Walter Huang. Tesla has also released a second teaser image of the new SUV.

But for the last six seconds, hands were not detected on the steering wheel.

Among other factors, investigators are trying to determine how the car's camera, radar and ultrasonic sensors were working and what they were tracking.

"Tesla has a history of using consumers as guinea pigs", said David Friedman, the director of cars and product policy at Consumers Union, the advocacy arm of Consumer Reports.
