Trump adviser apologizes for saying Trudeau has ‘special place in hell’

A senior aide to US President Donald Trump apologized Tuesday for saying there was a "special place in hell" for Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, following the acrimonious Group of Seven summit. "I own that, that was my mistake, my words", he said at a Journal conference.

Journalists traveling on Air Force One to Singapore with Trump had been told that the United States had chose to be part of the joint communique, which represented a minimal show of unity amid deep disagreements between Trump and the other six leaders over trade.

White House National Trade Council Director Peter Navarro stands along the Rose Garden colonnade as he listens to a news conference between U.S. President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the White House on June 7, 2018 in Washington.

Mr Trump labelled Mr Trudeau "dishonest" and "weak" after he criticised tariff threats at a media conference.

And Roland Paris, a former foreign policy adviser to Trudeau, jabbed at Trump on Twitter: "Big tough guy once he's back on his airplane".

Let's follow the timeline: What did Trudeau say?

"Canadians, we're polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around", Trudeau said Saturday as the gathering concluded after Trump had left early for the Singapore summit with Kim Jong Un.

The president's staff then blasted Trudeau on Sunday with economic advisor Larry Kudlow accusing Canada of stabbing the U.S.in the back. "The problem is that in conveying that message I used language that was inappropriate".

The hostages are being held in the internal courtyard of the building, which contains a mix of offices and residential apartments. Police would not immediately confirm whether the person holding the hostages was armed or describe the nature of his demands.

Mr Trump said: "If they retaliate they are making a mistake".

"It's very unfair to our farmers, and it's very unfair to the people of our country", he said.

Kudlow said Trump's response was "completely a reaction"' to Trudeau's comments. "We just shook hands!'" Trump said Tuesday.

"Thousands of Canadian workers and communities rely upon trade with our closest neighbor and ally, and it is incumbent for the entirety of Parliament to show stability and a united front, in these turbulent times", Ms. Ramsey said in a statement.

Hayden also scoffed at the idea that Trump's actions were part of an elaborate strategy as the president prepares for an historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Tuesday.

"I actually like Justin, you know, I think he's good, I like him, but he shouldn't have done that", Trump said.

"The president, coming late, stands before the cameras and says, "Why don't we add Russian Federation to the group". "Politicians can get into disagreements and they can have heated disputes but you have to think about where does this go, how bad could it get and the disputes are over a really, really small share of GDP".

Canadian officials have stressed the two countries' extensive trading relationship and pointed out that Canada is the top export destination for 35 USA states and that 9 million jobs in the United States depend on trade with its northern neighbour.
